WORK SCHEDULE: 24 hours per week | includes 1pm -5pm rotating Saturday hrs. | flexibility in establishing a permanent work schedule

SALARY: Competitive Hourly Rate

REPORTS TO: Library Director | Immediate Supervisor: Coordinator of Access, Research, and Instruction

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree or higher. •Library knowledge/skills or equivalent public service experience. •Basic knowledge of library operations and procedures is preferred but will train, if no familiarity with libraries •Proficiency in using a computer/keyboard, Microsoft Office software applications, email, Zoom, or other video conferencing platforms. •Prompt and reliable.

SKILLS: •Clear and effective oral and written communication. •Ability to independently perform specialized duties.  •Ability to establish and maintain collegial working relationships •Good organizational skills. •Ability to multi-task office activities. •Ability to exercise sound judgement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: •Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, move from one area to another on a regular basis. • Ability to push book carts and lift varied library resources, if needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Library Assistant will be visible and available to students, faculty, college personnel, and visitors at the College Library information service desk. Performing routine library functions, the Library Assistant will ensure the delivery of timely assistance to the College’s user community. The Library Assistant complies with the College policies and procedures and that of the Learning Resources Center.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists library users in finding electronic resources via the library’s webpage, online catalog, and within the physical facilities.
  • Assists library users in the operation of printers, photocopiers, scanners, and related  office equipment as needed.
  • Operates the library’s integrated library management (ILM) system in routine library procedures.
  • Orientates students, faculty, alumni, and visitors to the physical and virtual library environments.
  • Monitors the library to ensure a conducive study environment.
  • Assists with the weeding and reshelving of library materials from the stacks.
  • Records daily usage data.
  • Answers telephone and responds to office emails.
  • Utilizes video conferencing platforms.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Training will be provided, as needed, to ensure familiarity with library operations and technological systems.
