Assistant/Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The Department of Engineering and Computer Science at Benedict College invites applications for full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Environmental Engineering beginning Fall 2024. We are seeking applicants who share our passion for finding solutions to protect our resources and environment through innovative research and education focused on the future leaders of engineering. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: air quality, environmental remediation, innovative water treatment and reclamation technologies; green technologies and alternative energy; use and reuse systems at their nexus with energy, the environment, and health. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant research program involving undergraduates and to teach of a range of introductory to upper-level undergraduate environmental engineering courses, as well as general engineering courses as needed. A doctoral degree in environmental engineering or closely related field is required.

Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential as an effective instructor and student mentor, and be able to obtain funding to support an undergraduate research program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have at least 3 years of experience as an effective instructor, mentor, and researcher by the start date of employment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Teach lower and upper-level environmental engineering courses, as well as general engineering courses, that align with professional expertise and the needs of the department;
  • Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the department’s planning and growth;
  • Advise students and providing individual help to students during weekly office hours;
  • Provide academic and career advising to students in the major;
  • Establish an active undergraduate research program;
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication;
  • Assist with students recruitment and retention;
  • Provide service to the department, school, college, community, and profession;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to teach lower and upper-level undergraduate environmental engineering courses
  • Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Effective instructional delivery;
  • Proficient in the use of instructional technology;
  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom;
  • Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or closely related field
