Columbia’s HBCU of the Year, Benedict College, Celebrates Homecoming with Congressman John Lewis and features a production by Beychella Choreographer Jamel Josef

Columbia, SC —October 8, 2019 — This week, Benedict College (BC) alumni from across the country will join students, staff, and BC family and friends for the Annual Homecoming activities. Benedict College, which will soon commemorate a historic 150-years since its founding, will host a special guest this year- historical icon, trailblazer, and civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis.  Lewis will serve as the Grand Marshall of the BC Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 12 and he will serve as the Keynote Speaker for the Alumni Banquet on Friday, October 11. Go to benedict.edu for event details and ticket information.

BC’s Homecoming theme, BC Chella, is inspired by the famous Beyoncé performance for the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.  The 2019 HBCU of the Year, upholding its mantra “#BESTofBC”, secured the actual Beychella choreographer Jamal Josef, to orchestrate and produce the Mister and Miss Benedict College Coronation aptly titled, BC Court-Chella. The coronation will take place at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium (football field), Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 7 p.m

Other notable events during the annual homecoming celebration include #THEBESTofBC Alumni on  Friday, October 11thMeet the Doctor’s, a series of engaging discussions with BC alumni who are physicians and current students. Following, Meet  the Doctor’s will be an Author Talk and Book Signing featuring BC Alumna, Dr. Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, Former International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, who will discuss her recent book, You Can Lead.
