First Year and Transition Initiatives

The SSC leads various facets of first-year and transition efforts, this includes transition courses, Welcome Week, and The Freshman Institute (Leadership Program).

The Freshman Institute is comprised of 20 to 30 first-year students and led by the freshman class officers, who serve as the leadership council. These rising leaders are exposed to various developmental workshops and guest speakers that assist in their academic, social, and professional development as Benedict students.

The SSC is responsible for the management and curricular support of the seminar courses. 

The College Experience: A one academic credit course taken by first-year students that provides navigation of campus resources and academic success skills. 

Professional Pathways: A two academic credit sophomore level course that provides students with exposure to career and professional develop as they further explore opportunities in their academic majors.
