Library Hours

Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 11:00 PM
Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturday 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Sunday 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Library journals, magazines, and newspapers consist of publications that are published periodically. Circulating, reserve, reference, and special collection books, are categorized under the Library of Congress classification system. Juvenile and media resources are categorized under the Dewey Decimal classification system.

Journals and Magazines

  • Located on the Main (plaza) level and the Upper (mezzanine) level.
  • Includes all academic disciplines.
  • Alphabetically arranged by titles.
  • Back issues are kept for 5 years.
  • Journals and magazines are restricted to library use only.

Newspapers

  • Located on the Main (plaza) level.
  • Back issues are kept for 6 months.
  • Newspapers are restricted to library use only.

Circulating

  • Located on the Main (plaza) level and the Upper (mezzanine) level.
  • Books that cover all academic disciplines.
  • Students must have their Benedict College photo ID to borrow materials.
  • Stacks A through QA 221 are on the main level, stacks QA 241 through Z are on the Upper level.
  • Books can be checked out for 21 days.
  • Books may be renewed twice if no one else has requested them.
  • Books not returned by indicated due date are assessed overdue fines of 25 cents per day, per book.

Reserve

  • Located on the Main (plaza) level behind the information service desk.
  • Textbooks, articles and other materials placed on reserve by instructors/professors.
  • Students must have their Benedict College photo ID to borrow materials.
  • Reserve materials are limited to library use only, unless specified by the professor.

Reference (Ref.)

  • Located on the Main (plaza) level behind the information service desk.
  • Books cover all academic disciplines.
  • Provides an overview of subjects, quick facts, statistical data, etc.
  • Reference books are restricted to library use only.

Special Collection (SPEC.C.)

  • Located on the Upper (mezzanine) level.
  • Books by and about African Americans.
  • Collection begins in the early 1800s extending to the present day.
  • Books can be checked out for 21 days.
  • Books may be renewed twice if no one else has requested them.
  • Books not returned by indicated due date are assessed overdue fines of 25 cents per day, per book.

Juvenile (Juv.)

  • Located on the upper Upper (mezzanine) level.
  • Children’s books
  • Juvenile books CAN be checked out
  • Books can be checked out for 21 days.
  • Books may be renewed twice if no one else has requested them.
  • Books not returned by indicated due date are assessed overdue fines of 25 cents per day, per book.

Government Documents (Gov. Doc.)

  • Located on the Upper (mezzanine) level.
  • Publications from the United States government.
  • SuDoc (Superintendent of Documents) classification system
  • Government Documents are restricted to library use only.

Media Resources

  • Located on the Court (ground) level.
  • Audiovisual materials such as CDs, DVDs, and streaming videos.
  • Media resources are restricted to library use only.

Archives

  • Located on the lower Court (ground) level.
  • A repository of information on the history of Benedict College; its students, faculty and staff.
  • Archival documents are restricted to the Archives Center use only.

Microform

  • Located on the Court (ground) level, accessible from the library’s staircase.
  • Consist of newspapers and journals in microfilm and microfiche format.
  • Microform reader is located on the Main (plaza) level.
  • Microform resources are restricted to library use only.
