Katrina, slavery
(Columbia-AP) November 20, 2005 - Students at Benedict College used
art and theater to draw comparisons between Hurricane Katrina and
Slavery over the weekend.
Over 50 students showed up Saturday for the final night of "Help!",
a play featuring slave narratives and dramatizations of Black Hurricane
Katrina victims.
Professor Charles Brooks, writer and director of the performance,
says both slaves and hurricane survivors were treated less than human.
He also says the images of people wading in filth during the natural
disaster are very similar to what African slaves endured while being
transported to America.
