“Affairs of Our Ancestors”

Post-Production Report
CDBIII Players
Black History Month
Spring Valley High School

February 18, 2005

On February 18, 2005, at 9:30am, three students accompanied and traveled with assistant professor Charles Brooks, in a Benedict College vehicle, to Spring Valley High School.

Our purpose was to share our vision and mission as Benedict College students and faculty as we discussed our passion for theater, Benedict College, and personal stories.  Our Black History Program was similar to our program at DJJ (South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice) only we made a presentation to 640 high school students with the majority of African Americans in attendance.  We introduced the CDBIII Readers Theatre to DJJ and SVHS with a scene reflecting consequences we go through only because we did not learn to read and write.  The scene received with awareness by both groups for the problems not reading brings need-lessly.

We enjoyed lunch with the students as we listened to their concerns as young people, i.e. Aids, war, drugs and sex.
