Office of Communications and MarketingPress ReleaseXtreme Technology 2007September 14, 2007 Benedict College announces Columbia, SC -The Xtreme Technology Event (XTE) hosted by Benedict College is one of the fastest growing scientific competitions designed to expose high school students to different perspectives on the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. More than 300 high school students from South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina and as New York and Puerto Rico are slated to compete in the three day competition to be held November 14 through 17, 2007 at Benedict College. "Xtreme Technology event is a fun, high energy, educational opportunity for high school students to explore different areas in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, notes Dr. Stacey Jones, Dean of the Benedict College School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The event began five years ago with participation from a hand full of schools here in Columbia, South Carolina and has exploded into a national event. Mini-projects and competitive activities in the area of physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics and computer science, are purposefully and selectively designed to challenge and advance the thinking and problem solving abilities of participating students. The 2006 Xtreme Technology Event (XTE) welcomed 200 high school students from South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. Each student participant receives an XTE gift bag. In addition, we recognize individual students for outstanding participation. Schools accumulating the highest overall points are awarded high tech prizes and trophies provided by our sponsors who have included National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, SCANA, Wilbert Smith and Associates, Michelin, BMW, Apple and others.
