Ethel Mae Henderson Taylor is the immediate past president of the Benedict College National Alumni Association and is currently Assistant Professor of English at Benedict. She taught in Richland County Public Schools for thirty years, and during her tenure, Mrs. Taylor served as president of Richland County Education Association.
In addition to her work as an educator, Dr. Taylor became the first female to become a radio announcer in South Carolina, fifty-five years ago. In 1994, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from WOIC, and currently serves as host of "Golden Gospel Memories" for Glory Communications.
In the community, she served as the first BLack president of the Midlands Chapter of the American Business Women's Association and was named Woman of the Year in 1977. She is a life member of the Benedict College National Alumni Association, Life Member of the Alumni Association of the University of South Carolina, and a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Ethel Taylor's husband of fifty-five years, John B. Taylor, passed away in June 2001. She is the mother of nine, grandmother of fifteen, and great-grandmother of two.
