The following message is from Rick Groves, BC Army ROTC Administrative Assistant, on March 3, 2005:
Greetings Benedict College Family:
Today, I spoke with Lieutenant Kirk Stephens, a 2004 Benedict College graduate. Lt. Stephens graduated with a degree in Social Work and was a cadet in our ROTC program. His voice cracking, he seemed troubled at the onset of our conversation. However, I could sense his beginning to ease up a bit as we continued to talk.
Lt. Stephens is in Iraq and is in charge of the safety and well being of 13 soldiers; some of his soldiers are older than him with more time in service. I listened to him and I simply encouraged him to do his best and remain the brave student he was when he left Benedict College to go out to fulfill his endeavors. I share this with you to illustrate the difference a listening ear and an encouraging word can make in the disposition of a soldier.
I am publishing the names, e-mail and mailing addresses of all of the active-duty Benedict graduates/soldiers. I told Lt. Stephens that I would put this information out to the Benedict family. If it in your heart to do so, please take time to encourage and support our graduates/soldiers. I am sure they would greatly appreciate it.
Have a wonderful day!
