Date Posted/Updated: May 11, 2007 Joshua Stroman chosen for the Galbraith Scholars Program
May 11, 2007 To Whom It May Concern: My name is Joshua Stroman. I am a rising senior at Benedict College majoring in political science. I have always dreamed of attending Harvard University and this letter will enable you to be a part of making this dream become a sure reality. I am one of only 14 students from colleges and universities across the Nation chosen to participate in Harvard University's Galbraith Scholars Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government in Boston. The program, which will be held June 10-14, 2007, seeks students of exceptional promise and uncommon perspective who have demonstrated interests in issues of inequality and social policy. Enclosed is a copy of the letter of congratulations from Harvard University. Participants will receive a stipend to cover travel to and from Boston and housing. However, I am in need of additional funds to compliment my stay while participating in this prestigious program. As such, I solicit the help of people like you who are interested in helping me step up and accept what will prove to be one of the greatest opportunities of my life. You would be investing in the future of a young man who is dedicated to helping eradicate the injustices and inequalities which affect so many people of low economic status and whose voices are seldom heard in the decision-making process. I would be truly grateful if you could donate $20 or whatever amount you can contribute to help me fund the trip. If you are able to help, thank you very much. If not, then I thank you for taking the time to read this letter and considering my request. Sincerely and Respectfully, Joshua Stroman, SEE Article: From Benedict to Harvard. |
