On January 29, 2010, Jamar Quintez Holmes, Sophomore from Millen, GA finished 1st in the Men's 500 Meter Run with a time of 1:07.00 at the 2010 Dick Taylor Carolina Classic at UNC-Chapel Hill in a field of 26 runners, including most from NCAA Division I schools.
Melinda Bastian, Junior from Nassau, Bahamas finished 2nd at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a personal record and school record of 48.29m (158'5"). She lost by 1.3 meters. Petra McDonald finished 14th respectively in the 100m Hurdles with a 14.27. Melinda is the first Javelin thrower to become All-American from Benedict College.
Women's Track Athletes of the Year South Region - Petra McDonald
A senior from Nassau, Bahamas, McDonald is ranked 10th in the women's 100 meter hurdles on the NCAA Division II performance list at 14.04. She has run 12.75 in the 100 meter dash this season and was on the 4x100 meter relay team that finished third overall at the SIAC Championship meet.
Women's Field Athletes of the Year South Region - Melinda Bastian
Bastian, a junior from Nassau, Bahamas, was named the SIAC Conference Women's Field Most Valuable Performer after winning two individual events (javelin, heptathlon) at the conference meet. She also finished second in the shot put and fourth in both the high jump and triple jump at the meet. Her throw in the javelin (154') is currently ranked third in Division II.
On Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the NCAA DII South Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Atlanta, GA, Gabrielle Nixon was honored as Female Field Athlete of the Year. She won the Hammer Throw, Shot Put and Discus Throw. Melinda Bastian won the Javelin Throw and finished 2nd in the High Jump. Petra McDonald won the High Jump and finished 2nd in the 100 Meter Hurdles.
2009 SIAC Track & Field Championships
Day 3:
BC Women finished 3rd place with 132 points (10 points behind 2nd) in the meet. BC Men finished in 3rd place with 145 points (8 points behind 2nd).
Melinda Bastian had a stellar performance as she scored the most points of all competitors in field events with 36. She was named the SIAC Women's Field Most Valuable Performer and received the honor of the Cleve Abbott Award given to the athlete who scored the most points in the championship. Bastian scored 41 overall points. Melinda finished in 1st place in the Heptathlon, 1st in Javelin, 2nd in Shot Put, 4th in High Jump, 4th in Triple Jump and 6th in Long Jump.
Dickson Toroitich dominated the track events, finishing in 3rd in the 1,500m and 5000m, winning the 10,000m Run and 3000m Steeplechase, to score 32 points. Toroitich was named the SIAC Track Most Valuable Performer.
Day 2:
In the Heptathlon Melinda Bastian and Petra McDonald (14.04) finished 1-2 and both provisionally qualified.
Dickson Toroitich took home his second gold medal of the meet taking home the 10,000m and 3000m steeplechase. Toroitich completed the steeplechase in 10:05.59.
Day 1:
Whitney Charles automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 24.73 in the 200m.

On April 3 – 4, 2009 at the Aggie Relays in Greensboro, NC, Melinda Bastian broke the school record (also her own Record) in the Women Javelin Throw. She threw for 46.95m (154'0 ft). This mark puts her second in the National Rankings. Petra McDonald also qualified provisionally in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.36 (her personal best) and she will be ranked 9th in the National Rankings.
