Benedict Tigers Tennis Teams (Women & Men) compete in SIAC Tennis Classic in Memphis, TN

March 26 - 28, 2010

The Tennis teams made a long weekend of matches with the women closing and closing in at 4-1 and the men's team going 3-2. Matches began Saturday at 8:00 A.M. as the Tiger Men and Women, after 4 hours off the bus to Memphis, faced Lane College. The squads showed their stamina as they both opened with 5-0 wins.

At 10:30 the teams took on Tuskegee University. The Ladies fell short 5-4, in a match that deserves a rematch. On the Men's side, a tough opening win by Avery Coins and a match deciding tie-breaker win by Edward Cox lifted the Tigers to a 5-4 win over Tuskegee.

In the third match of the day, the squads faced Fort Valley State. For the women, the Lady Tigers rolled to a 5-1 win. The doubles team of DeAndra Reasonover and Jessica Carswell took a solid win 8-6 at #1 doubles to set the pace with the #2 team of Chloe Jean-Charles and India Cowell rolling to an 8-1 win. Chloe Jean-Charles, Jessica Carswell and Tiffany Bell won their singles to close out the match. The Men fell to the defending champs of Fort Valley State 5-0.

In Sunday's matches the Tiger men and women took on Stillman College. The Lady Tigers played a very good clinching match holding off Stillman with a 5-4 victory. Strong play came at the #2 doubles and the #2 and #3 singles that put the Lady Tigers over the top. The men took a tough lost to Stillman 5-0.

The SIAC Conference Round-Up finished with Benedict Facing host LeMoyne-Ownes College. Both teams took 5-0 wins, as Mary Hill clinched the point win for the Lady Tigers at #5 singles and Devongelo Crawford winning the clinching win 6-1, 6-4 at #3 singles.
