Big Tennis Weekend ends Regular Season for the Tigers

Make-up matches: BC at Savannah State University, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College.

The Benedict Tiger Tennis Teams closed out the regular season traveling in Georgia, taking on Savannah State University, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College. The Lady Tigers met Savannah State on Friday in a make-up match and came out with a convincing 6-0 win against a rebuilding Savannah State team. The match began with the #1 and #2 doubles teams playing well together and cruising to scores of 8-0 and 8-0 respectively. DeAndra Reasonover, Paola Lopez and Anna Lee Clarke posted 6-0, 6-0 singles victories with Lauren Smith rounding out the singles matches at 6-2, 6-2.

The Men and Women Tennis Teams rolled into Atlanta for rain make-up matches. Two with the women's against Clark Atlanta University and the men's team against Morehouse College. The make-up matches at the end of the season left Clark Atlanta and Benedict's women team tied for second in regular season standings.

At 12:00pm on a sunny, but cold and windy day, the first match started with Benedict's women's #1 and #2 doubles teams going down in tough fought pro sets. The match saw the #1 team of Reasonover and Smith losing their first conference doubles match 8-5 and 9-7 and at #2 Paola Lopez and Ayana Martin lost 9-7 in an extended pro set. Lauren Smith won at #3 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Precious Bryant and Shani Jones won their matches by default in #3 doubles and #6 singles. Clark Atlanta went on to win 3 of 5 singles to win the match 5-3.

The Benedict Tigers' men's team took on Morehouse College at 12:30pm.  The defending champs played well on their home courts and defeated the Benedict squad in singles for an overall 6-0 match victory.  Avery Coins, Jason Calloo, Edward Cox, and Daryl Rice ended their  year playing well in this rebuilding season and alerted the competition of their arrival with squad candidates for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and 1st and 2nd  team all-conference players.

The second Women's team match against Clark Atlanta saw the same position results as the Lady Tigers lost the #1 and #2 doubles matches in close matches 9-7 and 8-5 respectively. Ayana Martin got the highlight win at #5 singles 6-3, 6-4. #1 SIAC conference player and senior,  Simone Greene and Tara Turner for Clark Atlanta finished their season undefeated in singles . Greene edging DeAndra Reasonover in one of best singles matches of the year 7-5, 6-4 and Paola Lopez and Tara Turner battling in two matches to three sets each but going unfinished in the third.
