BC at Spartanburg Methodist Junior College

On Sunday Feb. 17th the Men and Women's Tennis Team traveled to Spartanburg Methodist Junior College to face the Pioneers.
The Tigerette's were up 3-0 in matches at the start as they were awarded the #3 doubles and the #5 and #6 singles due to a shortened line-up of the Pioneers in the best of nine match format.
For the women doubles, Spartanburg pulled out the first two doubles in close fought matches as Ayana Martin and Shani Jones at #1 and Precious Bryant and Samantha McGill at the #2 position lost to the duo of Swain and Laing and Harper and Smith at 8-6.
At singles, with the match close at 3-2 the Lady Tigers played tough and won 3 of 4 of the remaining singles matches to score a final match victory 6-3.
Match Scores: DeAndra Reasonover (BC) def. K Swain(SM) (6-2, 6-2); Paola Lopez (BC) def. A. Laing(SM) (6-1, 7-6(7-5)); K. Harper(SM) def. Lauren Smith (BC) (6-1, 6-4); Anna Lee Clarke (BC) def. Y. Smith(SM) (6-1, 6-2). The Tigerettes are now 3-1 in non-conference play and are preparing for the Columbia College Koala's this Sunday Feb. 24th at the Columbia College campus.
Benedict College Men's Team matched up against Spartanburg Methodist's Men's squad for their second match of the year. In a very competitive doubles match at #1 Avery Coins and Daryl Rice mounted a four game comeback but narrowly lost to C. Rangulon and D. Shelley of the Pioneers 8-6 while the #2 team of Jason Calloo and Michael Cox fell short to M. Dudley and G. Arledge. In singles, Jason Calloo pulled out a strong victory for his first win of the season as he defeated M. Dudley 6-3, 6-2 at the #2 singles position. At #1 Avery Coins lost in a good match to C. Ranguelon and Daryl Rice and Michael Cox showing good competitive tennis skills in their matchup losses at #4 and #3 singles. The Tigers are 0-2 now against strong teams and are preparing for the 1st SIAC Round-up on March 14th, 2008.
