Men's and Women's Tennis Team Update
April 4th, 2006
The Benedict Tigers’ Women’s Tennis Team played in Columbia at Columbia College. The Tigeretts were at short strength without #4 Anna-Lee Clarke and Paola Lopez trying to play but retiring with the flu tied in the first at 3-3. The team made a good non-conference showing against a very good CC (Columbia College) squad. The Lady Tigers fell 8-1 with Lisa LaCroix continuing her All-Conference winning ways pulling out the only victory in her match and with a 6-1, 4-6, (10-5) victory over CC’s #1 player J. Troutman for the second time this year. Their were some hard fought matches with Precious Bryant splitting sets and pushing matches until official match score totals ended the match.
Both BC men’s and women’s teams are gearing up for tough competition in the SIAC Conference Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 13th through April 15th 2006. The Lady Tigers ended the season in 3rd place and will fight for first in the tournament.
March 31st, 2006
The Benedict College Men and Women’s Tennis Teams faced Claflin College on Friday for a dual match. The event served as a final tune-up for the men’s team as they play their last match before going into the conference tournament on April 13th. The men came away with a 5-0 victory against a developing Claflin team. Leading the Tigers were Alan Ventour-Lewis, Jason Calloo, Shane Glasgow who scored 6-0, 6-0 singles wins and senior Donald Mathis with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #4 singles. Glasgow and Mathis won the only doubles match played at 8-2 in a pro set.
The Lady Tigers played an exhibition and won 4-0 as the Claflin women’s team had to default 4 matches because of injuries. The Lady Tigers’ line-up included Lisa LaCroix, Tracy LaCroix, Chanel McRae and Paola Lopez.
Tigers Women's Tennis Team (as of March 29, 2006): 10-4 SIAC Conference and 11-7 Overall.
With three seniors, two sophomores, and a freshman, the Tigers Women's Tennis Team is 10-4 in the SIAC conference and 11-7 overall match play. The Lady Tigers are led at #1 by Conference All-American and SIAC "Player of the Year" candidate Lisa LaCroix. Seniors Tracy LaCroix and Chanel McRae are accompanied by first year players, sophomores, Anna Lee Clarke, Precious Bryant and Paola Lopez. The freshman Paola, performed strong for the Tigerettes in her first college regular season at #3 in singles and doubles compiling a 5-1 and 9-4 conference record.
Lisa LaCroix began her match play wins with victories at #1 against Newberry and Columbia College and has powered through the conference schedule against the top teams for a 9-0 individual match record and a 7-4 record in doubles with Tracy LaCroix. Tracy, at #2, also toughed out a 7-3 singles record with a sore arm.. Anna is playing some of her best tennis at #4, going 4-3 in singles and 7-4 in doubles. Chanel McRae played well with a quiet 6-4 singles and 5-5 doubles record at #5.Precious Bryant has improved at #6 with a big win to clinch a victory in our last match and completed a 2-3 singles and 5-5 doubles record for the regular season.
March 24th, 25th, 26th, 2006
The Second SIAC Round-Up was hosted LaMoyne Owens College. The Lady Tigers played strong and came away with victories over LaMoyne-Owens, Stillman, Albany State, and Fort Valley. There were also 3 wins by defaults: two by Lane College and one by LaMoyne-Owens. They fell short in loses to Tuskegee and Clark Atlanta. Their record of 7-4 in the Round-Up clinched 3rd place in the SIAC Women's Division regular season with a record of 10 wins and 4 loses.
The Tigers are looking at top three positions in the SIAC Championships, which will be hosted by Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 13th through April 15th.

Men's Tennis Team (as of March 29, 2006): 5-7 SIAC Conference and 5-10 Overall.The Tigers Men's Tennis Team is on a rebuilding year and has endured some tough loses in non-conference matches against USC-Aiken, Newberry, and Johnson C. Smith. Seniors O'Neal Samuels, Shane Glasgow and Donald Mathis, are joined by juniors Fiaz Mohammed and Martin Degazon. The veteran freshmen, Alan Ventour Lewis and Jason Calloo who came from teaching experience added some necessary spark to a line-up depleted by graduation. In the SIAC Round-Up #1 at Tuskegee University, they scored wins over LaMoyne Owens and Stillman but fell short to Morehouse, Tuskegee and Fort Valley State. During SIAC Round-Up #2 in Memphis, Tennessee the Tigers finished at 3 wins and 4 loses leaving them tied for 4th place going into the Conference championships to be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 13th through April 15th, 2006.
