SIAC Championship Recap
(April 16, 2005)

Albany, GA – #1 East Albany State defeated #2 East Benedict 2-1 in extra innings to become the 2005 SIAC Softball Champions. Albany State did not give up a run in the 3 games that preceded their championship. They shut out #3 East Clark Atlanta 8-0, #2 West Miles 8-0, and Benedict 9-0.

However, the Benedict Tigerettes would not go down as easily the second time around. After defeating #1 West Kentucky State 13-2 in the Loser's bracket, Benedict bounced back into the championship game.

Benedict led 1-0 after the second inning, but Albany State tied it up in the third. The game remained tied after 7 innings of regular play and was sent into extra innings.

Benedict could have taken the lead in the top of the ninth with bases loaded and one out but outstanding pitching by Tournament MVP Corinna Garcia sent the Tigerettes on base back to the dugout without a run. Kala William's base hit in the ninth inning scored Shari Golden and the Albany State Lady Rams capture their first SIAC Softball Championship.
