Benedict Golf Coach Succumbs (2001)
Lucius Franklin Clark, Jr., golf coach at Benedict College, passed on Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at the Lexington Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Clark, a 1962 graduate of Benedict, revived the Tigers' golf team in 1997 after the program was terminated in the 1970s.
Clark was also a member of the Benedict College Board of Trustees and was also the first African American to serve as Area Director of the South Carolina Social Security Administration. He attended Ridgewood Baptist Church.
His wife, Margaret, three sons Mucus, Loritz and Franklin and a daughter Deborah Jackson survived him.
The funeral was held on Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Antisdel Chapel on the Benedict College Campus.
