BC vs. LC (Lane College)
October 10, 2009: The Benedict College Tigers are back to the grid iron defending home turf against the Dragons of Lane College. The Tigers look to improve a (1-3) conference record before a crowd of community students for High School Day 2009. Benedict also gave farewell and good luck wishes to each of its 12 dedicated seniors on this year Senior Day.
First quarter action would be plagued with turnovers, with the Benedict offense throwing an interception three plays into the first drive of the game. Benedict would regain possession after recovering a Lane fumble the ensuing drive. The Dragons would strike first, completing a 20 yd. end zone reception with 6:53 to go in the first quarter. A failed two point conversion would set the score at LC 6 – BC 0.
The Lane College Dragons would add to the lead with 13:44 to go in the second half. A 37 yd. drive ended in a 3 yard touchdown rush, stretching the lead to LC 13-BC 0. Benedict would fight off another Lane College red zone drive, forcing an interception on the 5 yard line. On the very next play Benedict QB Pat Riley would connect with WR Corey Gardhigh for a 75 yd. touchdown pass. The score would stand at LC 13- BC 6. Benedict would continue to dominate the second quarter evening the score with 4:10 to go. QB Patrick Riley connected with WR Kareem Dunlap for a 37yd. touchdown reception. The half would end at Benedict College 13-Lane College 13.
The Tigers came out roaring in the second half, taking their first lead of the game with 3:37 to go in the third quarter. QB Patrick Riley broke free on the keeper for a 30 yd. touchdown run, putting Benedict ahead 20-13. The Tiger defense dominated the rest of the game, holding Lane scoreless for the entire second half. With a 20-15 win over the Lane College Dragons, the Tigers improve to a conference record of 2-3.
The Tigers will be back in action next Saturday at Kentucky State University.
