Benedict College vs. Lenoir-Rhyne College (LRC)
09/22/2007: The Benedict College Tigers hit the road this weekend for non-conference play against the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College. Last years meeting at the Grand Opening of Charlie W. Johnson Stadium resulted in a 17-0 Lenoir-Rhyne victory.
Kevin Reese started at the quarterback position for the Benedict College Tigers marking the fourth starter this season at the position. In first quarter action Lenoir-Rhyne would start the scoring on a goal line rush touchdown just 1:54 into the game. However, Benedict would answer back with 6:35 left in the quarter with a 40 yard pass to Jonathan Cunningham for the score. The score would stand at BC 7-LRC 7 entering the second quarter until the Bears would push ahead with a 15 yard touchdown pass. Another Lenoir-Rhyne 21 yard touchdown run and 23 yard field goal would set the score at BC 7- LRC 24 with 5:25 to go in the half. Benedict would end the half with a 2 yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown with 25 seconds to go. A failed two point conversion would set the score at BC 13- LRC 24 at the half.
Lenoir-Rhyne would pick up where they left off in the first half widening the gap to BC 13- LRC 31 on a 50 yard touchdown run 7:44 into the third quarter. The Benedict woes continued with 13:13 to go in the fourth quarter when Lenoir-Rhyne rushed for another TD forcing the lead to BC 13-LRC 38. Time wound down with Benedict unable to muster an attack resulting in a final score of BC 13-LRC 38.
Benedict falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Tigers of Benedict College will be back to the Grid Iron in Conference play next Saturday taking on the Golden Rams of Albany State in Albany, GA. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
