Benedict College vs. Tuskegee University (TU)
09/15/2007: The 1-2 Benedict College Tigers looked to improve their record against SIAC powerhouse Tuskegee University this afternoon at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium. The Tigers enter week 4 of their season with vengeance on the brain after falling to Miles College on their home turf last week.
In first quarter action Tuskegee would draw first blood breaching the end zone on a fade to the corner. A failed PAT would set the score at BC 0-TU 6. Benedict would stir a productive drive the following possession marching downfield to a 1st and goal situation. However, it would result in a missed field goal allowing Tuskegee the lead heading into the second quarter. Subsequently, Tuskegee would widen the gap with 11:02 to go in the second quarter with a 25 yard touchdown pass across the middle forcing the score to BC 0-TU 13. A 41 yard field goal at the 6:49 mark kept the Golden Tiger offensive onslaught rolling to a 16-0 lead. As result of a 32 yard Touchdown rush from sophomore Reando Rose the Tigers would finally add some point to the scoreboard. A successful two point conversion would set the score at BC 8-TU 16 to close out the half.
Tuskegee would dominate the second half with 4 round trip tickets to the Benedict end zone catapulting to a 36 point lead. The Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University would hand Benedict their third loss of the season with a final score of TU 44 - BC 8. You can find your Benedict College Tigers on the gridiron at 7 p.m. next Saturday September 22nd at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC.

Charles W. Johnson Stadium - 6 p.m.-Columbia, SC
This weekend the Benedict Tigers will be looking to accomplish a milestone along with getting back on track after suffering a tough loss. Saturday night, the Tigers will take the field against one of the most storied programs in Black College Football History, Tuskegee at Charles W. Johnson Stadium. Not only will the Tigers be looking for their first conference win of the season, the program in addition, will also be looking to garner their first win in school history over the defending SIAC Co-Champions. Dating back to the first meeting in 1940, Tuskegee has won all 10 meetings, with the exception of two games in convincing fashion. Last year Benedict was romped by 41-14 on the road at the historic Abbott Stadium in Tuskegee, Ala.
Looking to regain its composure, Benedict will clearly have to work on managing the game better on offense, defense and special teams. In the game against Miles, the Tigers made six trips to the red zone, but only came out with two touchdowns and a field goal. On defense the Tigers were dominate on first-and-second down before giving up big plays to Miles on the third-down which kept the chains moving.
One bright spot for the Tigers on the offense was quarterback Robert Spence, who's 1-yard touchdown gave the Tigers a 17-14 lead with 3:40 remaining in the game. Moments later, the Golden Bears and quarterback Ellis George rallied and orchestrated a nine-play 66 yard drive to score the game winning touchdown with six seconds left to make the score 20-17. Botched plays, penalties and turnovers were prevalent factors in the loss. Although Benedict let the game slip away, first-year coach Stan Conner will be looking for his team to recover against Tuskegee, the most successful program in Black College Football History.
The Golden Tigers, winners of 25 SIAC Titles and seven Black National Championships, come into today's game after a bye week. Unlike Benedict, Tuskegee had no problem with its arch-rival at the Labor Day Golden Classic. Making his debut under center, Jacary Atkinson threw for three touchdowns to lead the offense to 434 yards. Defensively, Tuskegee held Miles to a mere 27-yards of total offense throughout the game.
Series Record: Tuskegee has dominated the series with 10-wins and no losses dating back to 1940.

Scouting Report
In the past, Tuskegee has dominated the mental and physical battle against Benedict. Last season, the offense was absent and the defense played timid, which allowed Tuskegee to score 28 first half points in route to a miserable defeat. The Tigers must put last week's loss behind them, and will come into today's needing to play mistake free football. Offensively BC will need to develop chemistry within the triple-option rushing attack, in order to confuse Skeege U's aggressive defense. Defensively Benedict will have to apply pressure and not allow big plays from Tuskegee's high-octane offense. An upset is possible; but in the end, Tuskegee has too much experience and too many weapons for the Tigers.
Player Spotlight
# 5 QB Jacary Atchinson, Tuskegee
The apparent heir to former quarterback Kevin Hough had an impressive debut under center for Tuskegee in the game against Miles and he will be looking to exploit BC's aggressive defense with his run-n-shoot abilities. The converted wide-receiver can hurt opponents with both his passing and rushing ability. If BC cannot keep him in the pocket it's going to be a long day.
# 9 LB/SS John Pitts, Benedict
The red-shirt junior is enduring a breakout season for the Tigers, thus far. The Georgia Military Transfer has a good nose for the football and is always around the ball to make a play. Look for him to be all over the field today against Tuskegee's fast defenders.
Others to Watch
