BC vs. LC (Livingstone College)
In the 6th Annual Palmetto Capital City Classic the Tigers of Benedict College faced off against the Livingstone College Blue Bears. After an upsetting season opener at Morehouse College the Tigers look to rebound in dominating fashion in their first home crowd appearance at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium. 2007 marks the first of many years the Palmetto Capital City Classic will be hosted at the brand new state of the art facility.
In first quarter action Jr. LB John Pitts would fight his way to the Blue Bears backfield for a game opening sack and safety to put the Tigers ahead 2-0 with 10:07 seconds left in the first quarter. After stopping Livingstone three consecutive plays the Tigers would regain the ball and pile on the points from a 2 yard TD rush from RB Mike Taylor with 9:02 seconds to go in the first. Taylor would also contribute a second rush for the 2 point conversion putting Benedict ahead 10-0. The classic would yield a quiet second quarter until Benedict QB Markus Webb connected with Isiah Tindal for a 43 yard pass into the opponents red zone resulting in a 2 yard rush by Webb for the score. A botched PAT would set the score at BC 16- LC 0.
In third quarter action Benedict picked up where they left off scoring just 2 minutes into the half. A 32 yard pass to Fr. WR Corey Gardhigh led to a QB sneak for the score widening the gap to BC 23-LC 0. With 9:35 to go in the third So. RB Verna Nesmith kept the offensive onslaught going breaking loose for a 72 yard TD rush and 30-0 Tiger lead. With 7:14 seconds to go Livingstone would get on the board, the result of a 30 yard TD pass and failed 2 pt. conversion setting the score at BC 30-LC 6. In the fourth quarter Benedict would reach the end zone twice more on short rushes from Devangelo Crawford and Robert Spence pushing the final score to BC 43-LC 6.
The Tigers of Benedict College will hit the gridiron Saturday September 8th at 6:00 pm to face off against the Miles College Golden Bears on their home turf.
