Head
Football Coach
John Hendrick
At
the press conference held on Friday, December 20, 2002
at 10:00 a.m. in the Swinton Campus Center (Conference
Room C), John Hendrick was announced and introduced
as the new Benedict College Head Coach beginning with
the 2003 Tiger Football Season. Hendrick, the former
Assistant Coach at Mississippi State University, built
his collegiate coaching reputation on developing untested
talent into perennially formidable State defensive
lines.
After
finishing his eighth season at MSU, and his seventh
as defensive line coach, Hendrick has proved his work
to be an integral part of MSU's rise to the nation's
lead in total defense and rushing defense in 1999.
Under his guidance, MSU's first line of defense allowed
only 222.5 yards in opponent total offense and 66.9
yards of rushing offense by its foes. MSU's defense
led the Southeastern Conference in every category.
Along
with 20 plus years extensive coaching experience with
football programs such as the Philadelphia Eagles (NFL),
Temple University, Kansas State University, Green Bay
Packers (NFL), Louisiana State University, Texas A&M, Southern University, University of Pittsburgh, and Delaware State University,
he also brings a wealth of knowledge in recruiting.
In
an interview, Hendrick commented that becoming a head
coach is something he has been working toward for the
last 21 years. He also explained how he could bring
a different type of leadership and organization to
the football program.
