Coach Isaac L. Smith, Jr.
Coach Isaac L. Smith, Jr. is the Secondary Coach. Isaac L. Smith is a 1967 graduate of Benedict College where he was a three starter as a defensive back. He earned his B.S. Degree in Physical Education and soon after began a teaching career in Cherry Hill, N.J. In 1972 Coach Smith earned his M.S. Degree from Glassboro State College.
In 1969 Coach Smith was named the Defensive Coordinator for the Lightweight Football Team of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1974 he was hired by Camden Catholic High School as the Offensive Coordinator and Defensive Coach. In the fall of 1978 Coach Smith took an Assistant Coach position at Cherry Hill East High School. From 1980-1982 Coach Smith went back to Glassboro State College as the Running Back Coach and Head Junior Varsity Coach and was later appointed as Defensive Backs Coach. In the fall of 1989 he was hired as Head Coach at Cherry Hill West High School. In 1996 he returned to Glassboro State (later named Rowan University) where he was Defensive Coordinator until 2003 when he retired.
During Coach Smith's tenure at Rowan his team won five conference championships, four Lambert Cups and went to the National Championship (Stagg Bowl) four times.
Coach Smith has devoted himself to the development of young players for forty years. It is his goal to help these young men develop strong skills and good character. He is a member of Benedict College National Alumni Association/Columbia Alumni Club #2 and an active member of First Northeast Baptist Church where he ministers on the Servant-Evangelism Team. Coach Smith is married to the lovely Margaretta Smith and they have one daughter, Michelle.
