Entered with an expression of awe and left with a bitter taste

The Tigers of Benedict College (BC) entered their brand new stadium with expressions of awe on their faces but left with a bitter taste in their mouths after being shut out by Lenoir-Rhyne College (LR) 17-0.

Culminated by an upsetting showing at Tuskegee last week and the electricity of a new facility, Benedict came out with lots of energy. However, could not reach the end zone. It was obvious by the fourth quarter that all that energy had been drained. Frustration was the word of the day for the Tigers after bearing painful witness to an interception to complete the opening drive at the 20 yard line, dropped pass after dropped pass, and a shut down running game that would only gain 32 yards the entire game. The only hope for Benedict to get on the board was a 48 yard field goal, a career high for kicker Martin Degazon (photo), which would be disappointingly called back due to a false start penalty. Lenoir-Rhyne would score 7 points in the first quarter and 10 in the third to complete the scoring for the evening. Benedict would fail to reach the red zone the entire game.

Titus Curry (photo) led the Benedict defense with 6 solo tackles and 4 assists totaling 10 tackles. Benedict will try once more for the inaugural win at Charlie W. Johnson stadium this coming Saturday against Albany State at 6 pm.
