A Dark Day in Tuskegee
This past Saturday was a dark day for Benedict College (BC) football; the Tigers would suffer a 41-14 loss to Tuskegee University (TU). Benedict was unable to stop the Golden Tiger offense yielding 34 points in the first half while being shutdown by the TU defense in the first half. Benedict showed some life at the 4:28 mark in the third quarter when quarterback Antonio Gaffney (photo) connected with wide receiver Britain Thompson (photo) for a 12 yard score. Four minutes later Tuskegee would answer back with a touchdown. Benedict would fight until the very end putting 7 more points on the board off of a 1-yard run from Elijah Clark (photo). The final score would stand at a 41-17 loss for Benedict.
The BC Tigers only mustered a mere 93 total yards of offense while submitting 408 to the opposition. Senior Linebacker Deon Lanier (photo) gave a commendable effort with 9 tackles, 4 of which were solo.
The Tigers will have a shot at redemption Saturday September 23, in the inaugural game at Charles W. Johnson Stadium against Lenoir-Rhyne College.
