Savannah, GA
Benedict College vs. Savannah State University
Game Time: 6:00 pm

Benedict College Tigers showed signs of life early on by scoring 17 points in the 1st quarter against Savannah State University (SSU). With a plethora of SSU penalties in the first half, Benedict College made its first scoring drive off 5 plays for 34 yards with a 1- yard rush by junior running back, Jeffrey Nobles. In the 2nd quarter with 12:49 left on the clock, kicker Martin Degazon smacked a 25-yard field goal after an 8-play 30-yard drive.  With 4:14 left in the 2nd quarter, quarterback Tremaine Lyle connected with 20 yard pass to wide receiver Richard Siders to make it 17 – 0. The PAT was good by Degazon.

While the Benedict College Tigers kept consistent in defending the run the pass-coverage remained suspect throughout the whole game. SSU starting quarterback Clyde Tuills, continued to dice up the BC secondary during the 2nd and 3rd quarters. In the 3rd quarter at the 7 minute mark, SSU answered with a 1-yard TD rush by running back Myshun McAlpine capping off a 3 play 63 yard drive to make it a 7 – 17 ball game.

On their next possession, SSU QB Tuills made a 12 yard pass to Hasan Khlil gobbling up a 8 play 75 yard drive with 3:47 on the clock to make the game 14 -17 BC. Coming back to answer the 2 touchdown series by SSU, Lyle threw a tight spiral pass to senior wide receiver Gerald Robinson for a 37-yard TD. BC took command of the clock with an 8 play 79-yard drive marking it to be one of the longest drives of the game.

In the 4th  Lyle completed an 11 yard TD pass to Scott to boost the score 31-14 at the midway mark of the 4th Quarter. This marked the final scoring for the BC Tigers. Benedict Colleges’ defensive front came to life forcing 5 fumbles, 1 Interception by freshmen sensation Andre Gladness, and forcing SSU to making 14 penalties for 121 yards. Linebackers Titus Curry and Deon Lanier led the defensive attack each collecting a total of 8 tackles. Defensive back Gerard Washington wasn’t far behind grabbing 6 of his own and breaking up a pass.
