2008 SIAC Cross Country Preseason All Conference Team & Predicted Order of Finish Announced

Women

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce the 2008 Preseason All Conference Cross Country Women's Team and predicted order of finish. Headlining the list is Phyllis Shelman-Ford of Clark Atlanta and Llonisha Lee of Albany State University. The Cross Country Coaches Association of the SIAC has also chosen Albany State to once again win the conference championship for the sixth consecutive possible time.

Sophomore Phyllis Shelman-Ford and defending SIAC Cross Country Champion junior Llonisha Lee leads a pack of very talented women. Shelman-Ford currently has the fastest time amongst the women this year in the 5k with a time of 21:44.98. She is joined by teammate Wendie Gardner from Clark Atlanta. On the 1st team Albany State has three runners including Lee, Crystal Lemons, and Ashia Hollingsworth which is why the Coaches Association has chosen Albany State to repeat as SIAC Champions. Tuskegee has the most student athletes with four on the comprised first and second team.

Albany State will attempt to win their sixth consecutive SIAC title behind the legs of their now experienced team. Tuskegee is also highly favored as well with a second place predicted finish followed by Clark Atlanta.

The All Conference teams were chosen based on the returning Athletes and their order of finish in the 2007 Championships. The prediction of the order of finish for 2008 is based on their finish in the 2007 Championships.

Men

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce the 2008 Preseason All Conference Cross Country Men's Team and predicted order of finish. Headlining the list is Benedict's Oneil Williams (left). The Cross Country Coaches Association of the SIAC has also chosen Benedict to once again win the conference championship.

Benedict's Oneil Williams is again one of the favorites to win conference and lead Benedict to their 1st ever title in cross country. The first team is filled with mostly Morehouse and Benedict runners (3 each). Joining the 1st team is Ahunuar Heurta of Kentucky State. He helped Kentucky State to their best ever finish, 3rd place, in cross country in an SIAC cross country championship. Oneil Williams was the MVP in 2006 at the SIAC Cross Country Championships and he hopes to regain the title and lead Benedict to their first ever Cross Country title. He has already run faster this season than he did at the 2007 championships where he finished in 3rd place with a time of 27.19.00. His current time, which leads the SIAC, is 27.05.00.

The Cross Country Coach's Association voted Benedict as the favorite to win the SIAC for the second consecutive year. Morehouse College was chosen to finish second and Kentucky State to finish third.
