Benedict Lady Tigers too much for Kentucky State Thorobreds

With a severe storm in effect, ice filled streets and 6 inches of snow on the ground, the Lady Tigers continued their tip-off against the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University. Returning to the hardwood with win last week against Lane College, Coach Felicia Jenkins and the Lady Tigers remain unbeaten in the SIAC and 8-2 overall. The Thorobreds entered coming off a strong win against conference foe Paine College. Speedy guard, Bridgette Williams, led the offensive attack scoring 10 points. The Lady Tiger defense held the KSU to scoring only 4 of 24 shots from the field. Too much defense during the first half would prove to be too strong for the Thorobreds. Brittany Jackson ruled the boards grabbing 7 rebounds with a blocked shot.

Benedict continued to press KSU during the second half and held them to a 32 percent shooting percentage and 28 percent from behind the arches. The Lady Tigers totaled an impressive 11 steals during the game and shot 41 percent from the field. Bridgett Williams held on to the leading scorer's position bringing in 13 points. Alexus Jones followed with 9 points and Ashlee Jones wasn't far behind adding 8 points as well. Newcomer Kezia Gortman and Monique Weathers totaled 6 points on the night. At the end of the game the Benedict Lady Tigers capped the Thorobreds 56-45. Coach Jenkins improved their winning streak to 6 and their record to 7-0 SIAC and 9-2 overall.
