Benedict Lady Tigers route Voorhees College in home Season Opener

[Columbia, SC] After a slow start and a flurry of fouls, the Lady Tigers of Benedict College surged passed Voorhees College with a 71-57 victory.
During the first half the BC Lady Tigers racked up 11 personal fouls, 5 turnovers, and were only 6-32 from the field. Voorhees outscored the Lady Tigers by 6 points at the end of the half. They also shot 38 percent from the floor while BC only shot near 19 percent.
Head Coach Felicia Jenkins, said, "I wasn't happy at all with today's performance. We have a lot to improve on if we are going to compete against better teams.

After some strong words of encouragement from a fired up Coach Jenkins, BC came out in the second half with the tenacity of a true championship team. Led by newcomer Shakira Autry, the lady tigers scored the first 8 points of the half and took the lead 26-24. Autry ended the night with a total of 13 points and 5 rebounds. Bridgette Williams also added 13 points and Ashley Covell added 10 points in their debut performance. Defensively Utivia Barnes pulled down 12 rebounds and scored 4 points. The final score of the game was Benedict 71- Voorhees College 57. The Lady Tigers improved their record to 1-1 and will face-off against Augusta State University on November 25th in Augusta.
