Benedict College Tigers edge University of Tampa Trojans

[Columbia, SC - December 9, 2009]  In a packed house at the Benjamin E. Mays Arena at Benedict College, Head Coach Fred Watson and his BC Tigers faced off against the Trojans of the University of Tampa. Early on in the contest the defense of both teams kept the score within a three to five point deficit. During the first half The Tigers trailed five minutes into the game, however, would take the lead with 8:00 minutes on the clock.  Kennie Eberhart led the tigers with 10 points while Aubrey Brown followed with 9 points. At the end of the half the Tigers led 42-39.

During the second half the Tiger offense smoothed out their rough edges and synchronized their offensive play. Jon Radford and Trevor Eichelberger led the offensive attack from behind the arches. At the 9:30 mark Tampa would take the lead 65-68, however too much Eichelberger from behind the arches in the second half would give Benedict the lead 70-68 with 2:45 left in the game. Callum Townsend of Tampa evened the game up with 1:30 remaining in the game. As time dwindled down, Coach Watson would take control of the game running multiple zone plays and strategically utilizing the remaining timeouts. With only 22 seconds left in the game the score was set at 72 Benedict 70 Tampa. Aubrey Brown broadened the deficit by drawing a foul and drowning two foul shots to make the score 74-70. Benedict allowed Tampa to score only once more, however the Tigers dropped four more points setting the final score at Benedict 78- Tampa 72.

Kennie Eberhart led the Tigers with 19 points, Aubrey Brown followed with 13 points, while Steve Horton, a guard from Cincinnati recorded 8 assist and 11 points. The "Big Man" Trevor Eichelberger scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while blocking 4 shots. The Tigers improved their record to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
