Claflin Panthers squeeze passed Tigers
The Benedict Tigers suffered their third defeat of the season and second on the road last night in Orangeburg, SC against the Panthers of Claflin University.
In a close match up, the Panthers topped the Tigers 62-64. Despite the loss, Charles Gibbs had a good night going 9-9 from the free-throw line and scoring a total of 21 points. During the game the Tigers brought down more rebounds than the Panthers by 8 boards and they also made more 3-pointers than the Panthers by 4 shots. Despite those statistics, the Tigers turned the ball over a total of 25 times to Claflin's 16 turnovers throughout the night.
The Panthers scored 35 points during the second half to Benedict's 27. Karl Ray was high score for Claflin University scoring a total of 22 points. Phillip Brown also added 13 points for the Panthers as the squeezed passed the Benedict Tigers 64-62.
The Tiger's are still on the road and will travel to Jackson, Tennessee to face-off against the Blue Dragons of Lane College on Saturday January 12, 2008.
