Benedict College Baseball team ranked #3
in Division II Black College Baseball Poll
[Columbia, SC] The 2007 Benedict College baseball team has been ranked #3 in the Division II Black College Baseball
Polls. The Tigers, returning from a 29-16 overall season record, are the
defending Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Eastern Division
Champions. The Tigers earned the SIAC eastern division title after playing 19
innings of baseball against Paine College due to rain delays. Their 2006
overall SIAC record was 10-5.
The Benedict Tigers
will return nine starters, 7 of which will compete in the weekend pitching
rotation. Included in those 9 starters, is senior third baseman, Deshaun
Brooks. Brooks led National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II
baseball in two categories during the 2006 baseball season; Home Runs (18) and
Runs Batted In (RBI’s) totaling 80 on the season.
The Tiger baseball
team’s season opener is scheduled for February 3, 2007 1:00 p.m. against
Bluefield State University at Capital Stadium in Columbia, SC. Throughout the
season the Tigers will take on challenging opponents such as conference rival
Albany State, Florida Gulf Coast University, Presbyterian College, USC-Aiken,
and Erskine College.
