Brooks Receives 2006 NCAA Baseball Statistical Champions Award in Two Categories

Brooks led the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II
baseball in two categories during the 2006 baseball season. The categories were
Home Runs (18) and Runs Batted In (RBI’s) totaling 80 on the season. While
capturing NCAA titles, Brooks also led the Benedict College Tigers to a
successful capture of the Eastern SIAC Division Championship. Presently, he is
a senior computer science major and native of
St. Thomas,
Virgin
Islands, holds a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a captain on the BC
Baseball Team.
Brooks started
in 35 of 36 games during the 2006 season and proved to be the core of the Tiger
Baseball bat attack. While approaching the plate 150 times he accumulated a
total of 57 hits; almost half of his plate appearances were successful. Brooks,
a 6-3 240 pound junior hammered 18 home runs and 80 RBIs while recording a .985
slugging percentage. He was awarded the Tiger Batting Champion Trophy ending
his season with a .438 total batting average.
Defensively,
Brooks was effective as a pitcher topping out in the high 80s – low 90’s. He
recorded a 5-2 record with 4 games saved and pitched a total of 42.2 innings.
During those 42 innings he gave up 22 hits and struck 43 batters. Brooks was
also the starting third basemen in which he only committed 8 errors on 57
attempts. He recorded a fielding percentage of .947.
