Benedict dethrones Morehouse to get their first Men's Cross Country Title

 Benedict finally got over the hump and defeated Morehouse for the SIAC Cross Country Championship winning by over 25 points to take the victory. Dickson Toroitich followed by Oneil Williams led the way as Benedict finished in four of the top five spots to take the Cross Country Title. Despite Benedict having a runner finishing in first place in the last three Cross Country Championships Morehouse had won the championship each of the last 13 years.
Dickson Toroitich ran a season best time of 26:02.8 to win the event. Oneil Williams also ran a season best time to take second in the race in a time of 26:26.8. Abraham Kiprotich was the lone Morehouse runner to finish in the top five, finishing with a time of 26:31.8. Justus Kirwa and Charles Chirchir both of Benedict rounded out the top five finishers.
Benedict won their first ever SIAC Cross Country title after battling Morehouse hard over the past three seasons. Ironically, this is the third consecutive year that Benedict had a runner finish in 1st place. Oneil Williams finished in 1st in 2006 while Emmanuel Kirwa finished in first in 2007. Oneil Williams finished in the top three for the third consecutive year and Abraham Kiprotich of Morehouse finished in the top three for the second consecutive year.
As Morehouse finished in second for the first time in 13 years, Fort Valley State and Kentucky State tied for third place with Kentucky State tying its best finish in the coach Von Smith era.
Benedict will prepare to travel to the NCAA Regionals Cross Country meet November 8, 2008 at a site to be determined. The NCAA Finals will be held at the Cooperslake Camp Ground Cross Country course in Slippery Rock, PA on November 22, 2008.
