FORT MYERS, Fla. - Benedict College's trip to the NCAA Tournament was a short one.
The No. 8-seeded Tigers struggled with their shooting and ball possession all night in a 78-49 loss to top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast in the Division II women's South Regional on Friday.
Benedict shot 3-of-17 from the floor in the first half and improved only slightly in the second, finishing at 33.3 percent.
FGCU (30-0), Division II's No. 1 ranked team and the nation's top-ranked defensive team, forced the Tigers into 28 turnovers. FGCU scored 30 points off those mistakes.
"They're (FGCU) very disciplined and played real good help defense, and it's hard to get what you practice to get because you don't know where the help is going to come from," Benedict coach Felicia Jenkins said.
FGCU was up by 10 with nine minutes gone in the first half, and up 39-15 at halftime. South Region most valuable player Kate Schrader scored 10 points for FGCU.
Natasha Gray led the Tigers with 14 points.
