Benedict Tigerettes claim SIAC women's basketball title

#2 Benedict College 75, #1 Fort Valley State University 56 (Women):
Senior Natasha Gray turned in a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds as the Tigerettes of Benedict College won the SIAC Title with a 75-56 win over the number one seed Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University.
Leading 32-29 at halftime, the Tigerettes shot 63.6% from the floor in the second half (14 of 22) to extend their lead. By outscoring the Lady Wildcats 43-27 in the second half, the Tigerettes claimed their second SIAC Title since joining the conference in 2003.
In addition to Gray's performance, the Tigerettes benefited from the 14 points of Senior Valarie McQueen and the 12 points and nine rebounds of Senior Christy Yusuf. Senior Aja Trotter also contributed 10 points along with 11 rebounds.
For their individual performances, Gray and Yusuf were named to the SIAC All Tournament Team and Gray was named the tournament's most valuable player. In addition, Tigerette Head Coach Felecia Jenkins was named the tournament's Outstanding Coach.
The Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley were led by Tracie Glawson and Deborah Jones who finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Jones and Takesha Riggs were selected to the SIAC All Tournament Team. The Lady Wildcats conclude their season with a 21-9 record.
As conference champions, the 19-9 Tigerettes of Benedict College will represent the SIAC in the NCAA Regionals.
