New Freshmen

Unrestricted Admission to the College

Applicants may gain admission to the freshman class by meeting the following requirements:

  • Hold a diploma from an accredited high school or its equivalent. The College recommends that students earn units from the college preparatory track.
    or
  • Possess a General Education Development Examination (GED) Examination Certificate.
    Earn at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in high school.
  • Meet one of the two following requirements:
    • Earn 750 on the SAT or 15 on the ACT or
    • Be ranked in the top 75% of the graduating class.

Other Admissions
Applicants who meet requirements #1 under Unrestricted Admission, but do not meet requirement #2 or #3 may be admitted to the College under the following conditions:

  • They must enroll for no more than 13 semester credit hours during their first semester.
  • They must participate in all required academic support and student support programs.
  • They must adhere to the College's attendance requirements in every class.
  • They may not drop a course (enrolled for 12 to 13 sch) unless approved by the appropriate College Dean.
  • They must meet with counselors in the Student Support Services Department on a regular basis.

Students in this category will be dismissed from the College if they fail to meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements within an academic year.
Applicants who meet requirement #1 under Unrestricted Admissions, but do not meet requirements #2 or #3 may be granted unrestricted admission in cases of unusual circumstances, e.g., having earned a high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale but having a SAT score of less than 750 or an ACT score less than 15; or having earned a high school grade point average of less than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale but having a SAT score of 1000 or higher or an ACT score of 22 or higher. The admissions status of students in this category will be determined by the Admissions Subcommittee.
