Young People's Christian Assembly

One of the largest events in South Carolina that brings together youth to learn more about the Christian faith will be held at Benedict College.

The Young People's Christian Assembly, which attracted nearly 300 youth each year, has been an annual gathering for over 40 years, said the Rev. John C. Williams. The Assembly provides a venue to reach youth. These young attendees learn about Christian education in an environment that allows them to interact with peers and participate in recreational and social activities, he said.

The Assembly is open to participants ranging from ages 12-18 years old. Youth are encouraged to begin attending the Assembly in the earlier years, because the curriculum covers a three-year period, the Rev. Williams said. Participants who attend each year will gain more from the experience than the ones who come for a one-time outing, he added.

All churches must pre-register youth. No on-site registrations will be available. However, on-site adjustments to registered groups will be permitted such as adding, reducing, or exchanging youth. The cost is $110 per person, which includes food and lodging. One chaperone is asked to volunteer from each church for every 5-6 youth and the chaperone rate is $110 also.
