1999 Wall of Fame Inductees

Annie McNair - - Scattered Sites 1995-99 (inducted in 1999)
Annie McNair has been a tireless volunteer in the Midlands. She has contributed her time to work with clients at SisterCare, The Cooperative Ministry, Guardian Ad Litem, the Salvation Army, The Department of Social Services, and The Department of Youth Services. She has received awards from several governors and Senator Strom Thurmond for her volunteer work. She was a member of the Columbia Housing Authority Board of Commissioners from 1992 until 1999. She has made a tremendous impact in the community by serving the homeless, the handicapped, foster children and families all across the Midlands.

Major Albert Terrence Garrick - - Saxon Homes 1965-73 (inducted in 2000)
Major Albert Terrence Garrick was serving in the United States Army at Fort McPherson, Georgia, as a Psychological Warfare Officer at the time of his induction. Major Garrick achieved his higher education from Voorhees College, South Carolina State University and JFK Warfare University. Major Garrick received recognition from the Columbia Urban League with presentation of a National Citation, for making tremendous strides in paying back to the Columbia community in reaching out to the youth. He has provided motivational, educational, and inspirational speeches as the primary guest at Voorhees College, Ft. Jackson, First Nazareth Baptist Church, Baptist Convention ’99-Charleston Youth Summit ’99, Alcorn Middle School, Koban – Housing Authority, Back-to-School Bash –CHA, and the Ft. Jackson’s Seventh Army’s Core Values briefing to thousands of soldiers weekly. Major Garrick is the author of “Reach For the Moon” ( a children’s book published in 1999). In addition, he has published many articles such as “The Path Towards Empowerment”, “Martin Luther King, Jr. (A Man of Mountain Moving Faith)”, “The Right Stuff (Good Role Models)”, etc.

Patrick James Patterson - - Saxon Homes 1974-90 (inducted in 2000)
After earning his undergraduate degree in Social Work from Benedict College, Mr. Patterson went on to graduate school at the University of South Carolina. At the time of induction in 2000, Patrick James Patterson was working as a research assistant to provide technical assistance to communities and grantees of the Fatherhood Initiative under the auspices of the Sisters of Charity Foundation. Additionally he was working at the Carolina Children’s Home as a Residence Counselor III. He has worked with Caring For Tomorrow’s Children Program-Care Line; Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Mr. Patterson also served as a volunteer as community schools and agencies, including Carver Elementary School, Teacher’s Aide; South Carolina Women’s Consortium; Palmetto SeniorCare Richland Memorial Hospital; Children’s Rehabilitative Services; and Men’s Services (Fatherhood Program) in Baltimore, Maryland.
