1995 Wall of Fame Inductees

Vince Ford - - Allen Benedict Court 1963-79
Vince Ford has made helping others his life’s work. Ford was the director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands at the time of his induction. Prior to that he was director of the Sickle Cell Foundation. Ford received his Bachelor’s degree from Benedict College and a Master’s degree from South Carolina State University. Ford has also served as a Richland County School board member. “It doesn’t matter where you came from, it matters only where you’re going”, Ford said.

James Hopkins - - Allen Benedict Court 1939-48
At the time of induction, James Hopkins was helping residents of public housing through his work as director and founder of the United Black Fund of the Midlands. The Fund has helped residents pay for education and other expenses. At a young age, Hopkins opened his own businesses: Al’s Lunch and Hop’s TV and Appliances. Hopkins served on the CHA board of commissioners for 15 years. He says, “[my] achievements serve as a positive reminder to residents that with a little work, determination and willpower, you can reach your goals.”
