1992 Wall of Fame Inductees

Willie L. Long - - Saxon Homes 1953-56
Willie Long was a Career Services Counselor at Midlands Technical College in Columbia at the time of his induction. Long received his Doctorate in Education from the University of South Carolina. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his army service in Vietnam. As a Counselor at Midlands Tech, Long believed that he was a role model for young residents. He says, “I am a constant reminder… of someone who seized the opportunity to succeed in life.”

Mildred Weathers McDuffie - - Allen Benedict Court 1950-62
Mildred Weathers McDuffie was a parent consultant for Richland County School District One at the time of her induction. She received her Master’s in Education from the University of South Carolina and has taught at the high school and elementary levels for 21 years. In 1991 she was named on the ten most outstanding women in Columbia. McDuffie works with parents and students who live in public housing, stressing to them that “where they live or who they are has no bearing on their success.”
