Bessie Pauline Williams - - Saxon

Bessie Pauline Williams was a fifth grade teacher at Sarah Nance Elementary
School in Columbia at the time of her induction. Williams graduated cum laude
from Benedict College and received a Master’s degree in Education from
the University of South Carolina. She was recognized as “Teacher of the
Year” at her school and is well known in the field of education. The
mother of six, Williams spent ten years as a preschool teacher for the Columbia
Housing Authority. She also received special recognition for 40 years of dedicated
work as church musician at Trinity Baptist Church. Her motto is “If I
can help somebody as I pass along, then my living will not be in vain.”
Isaac Washington - - Allen Benedict Court 1942-64
Isaac Washington served as president/publisher for the South Carolina Black
Media Group at the time of his induction. The Group comprises seven weekly
newspapers published throughout South Carolina. In 1991, President George
Bush invited Washington to the White House for a conference on African American
contributions to American history. Washington graduated from Benedict College
and is involved in the Boy Scouts, the Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia
Business Network. |
