Juanita S. Scott Middle School Summer Laboratory Science and Mathematics Enrichment Program (MSSEP) June 9 - July 11, 2008
The Juanita S. Scott Middle School Summer Laboratory Science and Mathematics Enrichment Program (MSSEP) is a dynamic, five -week summer enrichment program that has been offered at Benedict College for over twenty years with hundreds of participants and is designed to:
- Help students acquire a life-long interest in science, mathematics and technology;
- Motivate more students to pursue academic studies and possibly careers in these disciplines; and
- Offer an enriching, integrated curriculum that focuses on PACT Preparation, general academic enhancement and other skills needed to design quality and competitive science projects.
MSSEP offers middle school students an integrated curriculum which includes
- Exposure to exciting, hands-on laboratory experiences in life science, earth physical science, computer science and engineering;
- A comprehensive technical writing course covering the fundamentals of writing a scientific research paper;
- Interactive and hands-on activities encompassing computer applications and computer science;
- Problem Solving-based course in mathematics;
- Fine Arts classes offering creative activities in the "fusion" of art and science; and
- Exposure to the college environment.
