Language Arts Camp
(June 9th thru July 18th, 2008)
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (M-F)
(Children ages 5 - 13)

Language Arts Camp is a six-week summer enrichment program for elementary and middle school children, grades K-8.  The program provides enrichment in reading, writing, math,  the performing arts, and computers .  Additionally, the program includes afternoon recreational activities such as arts and crafts, life skills, movies, basketball and other gym activities.  The children will have the opportunity to participate in the Mr./Miss Language Arts Camp pageant, and the development of a camp yearbook.  A culminating program exhibiting acquired skills from each educational component, will be presented at the end of camp.  Classroom lessons will be structured so as to provide students with the concepts and skills needed to improve their scores on examinations such as  the MAP and Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT).

Fees: The cost of camp is $480.00 per child (lunch included).  There is a 10% discount for two or more children within the same family; 10% discount for Benedict's faculty, staff, and students.  A $50.00 non-refundable application fee must be paid (as soon as possible) to the Business Office to assure your  child  a place in the program.  (If all slots are full, your check will be refunded.)  The $50.00 application fee will be deducted from the total cost of the program.  See application (PDF format) for more information.

Summer Transportation Institute (STI)

Benedict College will host the Summer Transportation Institute (STI) for rising 10th and 11th grade students on June 15 - July 11, 2008. The purpose of this Institute is to create awareness and stimulate interest in secondary school students to take full advantage of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry. The four-week residential institute is a structured learning opportunity for youth in the secondary school systems of South Carolina. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Civil Rights, the South Carolina Division Office of FHWA, and South Carolina Department of Transportation sponsors the Institute.

SCAMP Summer Science Enrichment Program
June 9 - July 11, 2008

The South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation Program is a member of the National Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation which is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The goal of the Alliance is to increase the number of bachelor degrees awarded to minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). SCAMP is designed to remove the barriers that prevent full participation by minority individuals in STEM fields. The SCAMP Summer Science Enrichment Program is a residential summer bridge program designed to expose students to college level laboratory/research experiences in the STEM areas, strengthen students' academic and professional preparation for STEM careers and prepare students for the College Placement Exams. Dr. Stacey Franklin Jones is the Campus Director of the Benedict College SCAMP program.

Benedict College Summer Sports Fun Camp
June 9 - July 18, 2008

The Benedict College Summer Sports Fun Camp is an exciting program designed for boys and girls ages 5 - 14. The program offers educational and cultural activities along with the teaching of basic skills and fundamentals for various sports. Each week a new sport will be reviewed with the participants.
