Transportation Institute

Twenty ninth and tenth grade students will receive full scholarships to participate in a four-week, residential summer program in Transportation, funded by the Federal Highway Administration Program and the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

The curriculum will expose students to new frontiers and adventures in transportation such as highway design, transportation of people and cargo, intermodalism, laws, regulations, safety, environmentalism, and other career opportunities. Additionally, students will participate in SAT preparation courses, computer training, CAD, reading and writing enhancement skills, field trips, student projects, school to work transition, and time man agement.

The scholarships will include the following:

  • Tuition (academic, room, board)
  • Equipment and Supplies
  • Laboratory Fees
  • Speakers
  • Workshops and Handouts
  • Facility Usage
  • Travel (Field Trips)
  • Instructors

Application forms have been sent to ALL public and private secondary schools in South Carolina. The particulars are as follows: completion of pre-algebra (or planning to take pre-algebra); GPA of 2.7 or above; interest in engineering, science, transportation, or technology; two letters of recommendation; copy of official transcript.
