blackbc broadband black darrell tDarrell T. Black presently works for Benedict College, Division of Institutional Effectiveness as the Chief Information Officer. He has degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Delaware State University as well as a Master of Science and Management of Technology from Georgia Institute of Technology. Black has over fifteen years experience in the area of sales and marketing and is a skilled strategist with a proven track record of delivering optimal results in information technology, telecommunications, marketing, and financial environments.

bowiebc broadband bowie nolanNolan Bowie is a Senior Fellow and Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. From 1986-98, Nolan was an Associate Professor of Communications at Temple University. Professor Bowie is a former staff attorney and executive director of Citizens Communications Center, a public interest law firm and education institution, 1974-80. He served both as an Assistant Special Prosecutor with the Watergate Special Prosecution Force and Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Bureau, New York State Department of Law. He was presented the Manuel Carballo award for excellence in teaching at the Kennedy School of Government by the graduating class of 2001. In the fall of 1998, Nolan was named in a nationally syndicated column as one of the "High-Tech Heroes Who Work for the Public Good."

bc broadband bryant jimJim Bryant, Ph.D. is the former Chief Information Officer for the state of South Carolina where he led the most talented 300+ information technology professionals to "Connect People With Information". A native of Charleston, South Carolina he graduated from The Citadel as an Air Force Distinguished Graduate. Dr. Bryant has been featured in Government Technology and Washington Technology for his innovative/cutting edge work with advanced software architectures and emergency response preparation in South Carolina. He has given keynote presentations at many leading venues in government, academia and industry. Dr. Bryant has also made extensive contributions to professional societies around the United States including Government Industry Councils, IEEE, ACM, NREP and the National Association of State CIOs.

cohillbc broadband cohill andyDr. Andrew Michael Cohill is the President and CEO of Design Nine. He is an information architect with an educational background in architecture, ergonomics, and computer science. Cohill has an international reputation for his work advising rural communities on technology and telecommunications issues. In the United States, he has worked with rural communities across the country, with recent work in New Hampshire, Virginia, Illinois, New Mexico, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas. In recent years, his international work has taken him to British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Quebec, France, the Guernsey Isles, and Japan. He was the Director of the world renowned Blacksburg Electronic Village (BEV) at Virginia Tech from 1993 to 2002. By the late nineties, Blacksburg had become widely known as the "most wired community in the world," with more than 87% of the town's residents using the Internet. Today, virtually all of Blacksburg's businesses and residents have one or more broadband access options at home, at work, or at both. Cohill was responsible for the design and development of electronic village and broadband services, supervised a research and development group, and managed an operations group that managed the BEV office and administrative services. He also directed the long range planning effort for the group, and served as an advocate for networking in the university and around the Commonwealth of Virginia.

bc broadband horton paulPaul "Mac" Horton, Ph.D., is the Associate Dean, Director, and Professor of the Sandhill Research and Education Center (SREC) and Director, Clemson Institute for Economic and Community Development (CIECD) located Columbia, South Carolina. The Sandhill Research and Education Center (SREC) is one of five off-campus centers in South Carolina operated by the Clemson University Public Service Activities.   Sandhill is located on 600 acres of land Northeast of Columbia, South Carolina. The recently established Clemson Institute for Economic and Community Development is also located at the Sandhill Center.

bc broadband ipsan matthewMatthew Ipsan became Vice President of Interactive Media at The State publishing company on May 27, 2008. Matthew was the Director of New Media for the Belo television station WCNC in Charlotte, where he worked for two years in that capacity. In 2004, Matthew started his own new media consulting company after leaving the PGA TOUR where he was General Manager and Executive Producer in their new media department, starting in 2000. Matthew's first job in new media was at Foxsports.com and prior to that he was on the television side of ESPN from 1993 to 1999 in a number of roles, including coordinating producer of SportsCenter and news editor for all ESPN properties. Matthew is a graduate of the University of Iowa, with a degree in Broadcast Communications. He is a frequent guest speaker on new media journalism and marketing at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Volunteer activities include Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Habitat for Humanity.

bc technology summit speaker stacey franklin jonesDr. Stacey Franklin Jones serves as Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Sponsored Programs for Benedict College.  In addition to management and development responsibility for the College's sponsored programs and research portfolio of nearly $30M, her duties include oversight of the Community Development Division; Institutional Research and Assessment; Technology Infrastructure and Management Information Systems units.  Dr. Jones is the former Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and a tenured Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics.  Dr. Jones is a magna cum laude graduate of Howard University, an honors graduate of Johns Hopkins University, and was the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in Computer Science from the George Washington University.  Dr. Jones has 27 years of experience acquired in the defense contract industry and higher education, complemented by development training at Harvard and Hampton Universities.  Dr. Jones is a recipient of numerous awards which include the 2007 South Carolina Governor's Award for Excellence in Scientific Awareness – a first for an African American in the state of South Carolina.

bc broadband lamie daveDave Lamie, Ph.D., recently joined the Clemson Institute for Economic and Community Development at the Sandhill Research and Education Center in Columbia. Prior to joining Clemson, Dr. Lamie worked for the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs where his work focused on assisting rural communities use technology infrastructure to enhance their prospects for economic viability in the modern global knowledge economy. Among other things, he assisted the Lt. Governor's office with community information technology policy issues, developed the on-line discussion group, Get Illinois Online that helped to foster communication in the state on telecomm policy issues, initiated a multi-county technology council, and managed the Rural Information Technology Planning Project.

bc broadband lincoln bruceBruce Lincoln is an educational technologist, a design scientist and a multimedia designer/developer. From 1994 until 2004, Bruce was the Senior Educational Technologist and Manager of Community Outreach at the Institute for Learning Technologies at Teachers College, Columbia University where he managed the Harlem Environmental Access Project (1994-96), The Eiffel Project (1996-2001), The Harlem Renaissance 2001 Project (1999-2001), The SmartForce E-Learning Digital Scholarship Fund (2000-2002), The New York Online Neighborhood Educational Network Project (2000-2003), and culminating in the New York City Community Technology Center Bank Project (2001-2004). Bruce has raised more than $13 million for the internetworking and support of a consortium that has at one time or another included over 30 schools, 20 community-based and cultural organizations, a number of for-profit technology service providers, and now under the umbrella of the NYC CTC Bank more than 136 community technology centers.

Through the New York City Community Technology Center Bank, Bruce developed a project that would deploy a wireless, broadband network which would turn a community technology center, or a community-based organization or a school into a neighborhood ISP providing each organization access to a for-profit portal which would allow for revenue generation and sharing as a means to achieve self-sufficiency for each particular organization. The project will be piloted in Washington Heights, Central and East Harlem, and in Chinatown.

Bruce also runs two virtual companies: Sirius B Productions, Inc. founded in 1988 and the Urban Cyberspace Company founded in 1994. Sirius B Productions, Inc. is an advanced multimedia research and development company that from 1989 to 1991 designed and produced the Black Inventors Continuum, an interactive multimedia software product on the contributions of African-American inventors to world science, industry and technology. Urban Cyberspace is a design think tank and consulting/marketing firm specializing in broadband Internet technologies.

sherwoodbc broadband sherwood chuckChuck Sherwood is a Public Sector consultant providing service to local franchising authorities in the preparation of community needs assessments for the cable franchise renewal process and the development of nonprofit cable access management organizations for the provision of PEG Access and Community Media services to local communities. Additional consulting services are in the development and implementation of strategic work plans and public policy positions in a converging telecommunications landscape. The review of existing public, educational and governmental access programming services and bringing those services into the new digital production and distribution environment that adds the Internet to the traditional cable channels. The development of management structures; operational and capital budgets; community media production equipment; and maintenance packages to create community programming content and opportunities for public participation. Other areas of expertise include: Executive Director Search, Board Development, Human Resources, Marketing Public Relations, and Fundraising.
