POSITION: Chairperson, Fine Arts/Director, Marching Band

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Musical Arts or related field.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of the successful candidate include the following and any others as may be assigned by the Dean and/or Vice President for Academic Affairs. Coordinate the work of the instructional staff to include developing course outlines, ordering textbooks, providing oversight for class coverage, monitoring faculty instruction and advisement, and providing representation at professional meetings. Approve faculty requests for leave consistent with college policy and ensure that a qualified instructor or relevant course activities are provided. Coordinate and/or conduct evaluation of faculty in the department. Recommend personnel, lead search related efforts within the department and, as necessary, participate in search committee review for new administrative hires.
Requisition and disseminate instructional supplies for faculty with the approval of the Dean and Vice President. Negotiate and resolve student/instructor and faculty interpersonal conflicts in the department before the intervention of the Dean or Vice President is required. Recommend class schedules and operating budget. Compile semi-annual and annual report of departmental activities. Maintain attendance records and submit leave accounting forms bi-monthly to the Office of the Dean.
Develop performance calendar for community venues. Recruit new talent in area and regional high schools during performance opportunities and recommend scholarship opportunities. Acquire and maintain instruments for the marching band. Provide oversight of the budget for the marching band. Oversee bookings and travel arrangements for band participation in athletic and other events. Audition new talent, and work individually or corporately, as required, with band members.

The Education, Child and Family Studies Department at Benedict College announces two full-time tenure-track Associate Professor positions in Early Childhood and Elementary Education beginning in fall 2007.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in early childhood/elementary education. A minimum of three years of experience teaching grades PK-6 is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicants will teach undergraduate level early childhood education/elementary education courses. Responsibilities include advising students and supervision of field experiences. Additional responsibilities include participation in research projects, other scholarly activities particularly the ability to secure external funding. Further, the successful candidates will collaborate with related academic programs, assist in program development and accreditation efforts, and be an active member of professional associations.
