RIMI Program

Student Activities

The specific aims for the student activities core are:

1) to establish a support system for the retention of science majors and

2) to provide experiences that will encourage and facilitate minority students entering graduate schools in the sciences to develop research careers.

The student activities core under the direction of Ms. Vivian Counts, Benedict College Health Careers Advisor, includes a number of activities to increase retention rates in the sciences, and the number of science majors qualified and interested in attending graduate or professional schools.  A support system has been developed which includes a Peer Tutoring Program for science courses and a GRE Preparation Workshop.

This core also presented a number of Student Workshops on various topics which included:

"Developing Successful Study Habits in Math & Science"

"Summer Opportunities for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Majors"

"Preparing for Graduate & Professional School Entrance Exams"

"Everything You Need To Know About Pursuing A Health Career"

Another activity in this core is the RIMI Student Research Support.  Students recently supported by the RIMI program to work with biomedical researchers were:

Mr. Neville Bain                 Mr. Nick Washington        Ms. Ayana Martin

Ms. Jennifer Fertil              Ms. Latisha Debose            Mr. Camilo Esquivia

Ms. Latoya Jenkins             Ms. Nicole Clarke

With the support of the RIMI program at Benedict College student representation and awards for research at Scientific Meetings have increased.  Recent representation and awards included:
