Social Work Dept.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Benedict College Social Work Department is to prepare students for generalist social work practice or graduate study who are committed to the values of the social work profession and who are competent and committed to implement and advocate for the purposes of the social work profession.  Our graduates will be competent practitioners who provide services to promote social and economic justice that respect diversity and the dignity and worth of each person and recognize the importance of human relations.  They will be prepared to provide services that alleviate social injustice; promote healthy functioning and interactions among a variety of clients by involving them in activities to improve their situations. Our graduates will respect diversity among all people and be advocates for improved social services, policies, and resources to advance social and economic justice.  They will be prepared to work comfortably in diverse communities with special appreciation and competencies in working in low income, African American and other minority communities.  The Social Work Program at Benedict College will also help to advance the social work discipline and practice through research and scholarly activity of faculty and students.  Finally, the Social Work Program will provide service to the community that will promote and advance social justice and help eliminate historic social and economic injustice and disparities impacting the African American community.
